Sahara Issue at the Focus of Benaissa-Bradshaw Talks in London
Morocco-UK, Politics, 3/14/2002

The latest developments in North Africa and the contention with Algeria over the Sahara issue were at the hearth of talks held in London Wednesday by Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohamed Benaissa, and British secretary of state to the foreign office in charge of North Africa and the Middle East, Ben Bradshaw.

The two men also surveyed the situation in the Middle East and other issues of common concern.

Benaissa expounded the recent evolution of the Sahara issue and the efforts made by James Baker, former US secretary of state and personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Sahara, to find a solution guaranteeing stability and security in the region.

Benaissa handed Tuesday British Premier Tony Blair a message from King Mohammed VI dealing with the latest developments in North Africa and the evolution of the Moroccan-Algerian conflict on the Moroccan Sahara issue.
