Armament systems to be modernized
Egypt, Military, 3/13/2002

Egyptian Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and the Minister of Defence said the Armed Forces are prepared to sacrifice for maintaining the homeland soil. For this reason, he said they are kept in full alert all the time.

During his meeting with the members of the committees on defence, national security, foreign relations and Arab Affairs of the People's Assembly, he said the policy of spending followed by the armed forces aims at maintaining a military force which is capable-of deterrence at the least possible costs together with the optimal use of resources and upgrading the level of training.

He said the armed forces managed last year to maintain combat readiness, to modernize armament and command systems, to achieve self sufficiency and to upgrade efficiency of combatants.
