Menya governorate hosts National Council for Women Conference
Egypt, Culture, 3/13/2002

Egyptian First Lady Suzanne Mubarak will open the 3rd conference of the National Council for Women (NCW) at Menya University on Saturday, NCW Secretary General Farakhunda Hassan told a press conference yesterday.

The conference will host four workshops under the main title of "Women and Modernising Society". Recommendations resulting from the workshops will be discussed at Saturday's general session to be headed by Mrs Mubarak, said Hassan.

The conference's agenda also includes discussions about the UN initiative to create a special fund for women's social development in the Middle East and East Asia.

An exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the two-day event to display comprehensive statistics concerning the status of women and the performance of women's associations in various governorates.

Mrs Mubarak will also lay the foundation stone of a new branch of the NCW in Menya's city center.
