King Abdullah on regional peace and Iraq
Jordan-Regional, Politics, 3/13/2002
The Jordanian King Abdullah II has stressed that the establishment of peace in the Middle East will not be attained unless Israel recognizes the right of the Palestinian people and implement all international legitimacy resolutions pertinent to the Middle East especially US resolutions 242 and 338.
In a statement to the Saudi daily al-Watan issued on Tuesday, the Jordanian King refused imposition of the "Fete accompli" policy pursued by Israel and stressed that this policy will not enable Tel Aviv to impose its will on the Palestinian people, noting that the policy of killing and destruction conducted by Israel will not bring peace.
The Jordanian King warned against the continued policy of military Israeli escalations and its adverse consequences against stability in the region. He said that the continued Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people will make things out of control.
On the Iraqi issue, the Jordanian King warned that any military strike against Iraq will have negative impact on the stability of the region as a whole and on the international efforts to fight terrorism. He considered that striking Iraq is a catastrophe and that there is no way to solve issues pending with Iraq except through dialogue between Baghdad and the UN.
