An opposition member: Saddam Hussein's days are numbered
Iraq, Politics, 3/13/2002
Gen. Nizar al-Khazradji, chief of staff of the Iraqi army between 1986- 1990 has stressed that the days of the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in authority have become numbered, noting his continued contacts with leaders of the Iraqi opposition abroad.
In statements he made in Denmark where he lives, al-Khazradji added he can not give details on how the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein will be toppled but just said that Hussein will not stay long in power, adding that within one year from now he will be able to return back to Iraq.
Al-Khazradji denied that he was responsible for implementing the attacks by chemical weapons against the Kurds in North Iraq by the end of the 1980's, noting that the said attack was directly organized by President Saddam Hussein and his assistant Ali Hassan al-Majeed.
Worthy mentioning that the Danish government refused to give al-Kharadji the right of asylum but permitted him to stay in Denmark, at a time when this government is making investigations on his responsibility in these crimes and whether he will be facing accusations of committing war crimes.
