Bahrain: five societies taking part in the municipal elections
Bahrain, Politics, 3/13/2002
Five political societies in Bahrain on Tuesday announced their participation in the municipal elections which will be held this May in the country, but expressed "great concern" over the distribution of the electoral departments.
In a statement issued in Manama, the five societies said that they had agreed to "launch the municipal election," noting that "it embarks on the principle of consultation regarding the candidates. Stresses the principle of placing the right man in the right place and the criterion of efficiency in selecting the candidates."
The societies stressed:" commitment to the constitutional amendments," which indicated "to comply to the ambitions of people to political participation." The statement was undersigned by the societies of the democratic national work; the progressive democratic forum, the Islamic national forum( under foundation), the Democratic Islamic Arab circle and the Islamic national reconciliation.
The King of Bahrain on February 14 announced holding of municipal elections in May and other legislative elections in October this year.
