Message To Mubarak from Saudi Monarch and his crown Prince
Egypt-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 3/11/2002

Egyptian President Mubarak yesterday received a message from king Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz and Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

Prince Saud AL Faysal, the Saudi Foreign Minister conveyed the massages yesterday to the president diring a meeting attended by Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher attended the meeting.

Emerging from the meeting, the Saudi Foreign Minister said Egypt and Saudi Arabia have identical views towards the current issues under debate and are gravely concerned and resentful at the shedding of innocent Palestinian blood.

"Cairo and Riyadh are also in agreement on the need to raise the Saudi peace initiative to the upcoming Arab summit in Beirut," he said, stressing the urgency for the formulation of a clear and United Arab positions at the summit.

"The Saudi initiative was examined before during lengthy talks between President Hosni Mubarak and Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah, and the issue was re-examined at Sunday meeting, "he said.

"Arab countries have a sincere desire for permanent and comprehensive peace, at the same time, Israel is required to show its genuine intentions towards peace and abide by the implementation of UNSC resolutions 242, 338 and the Madrid terms of reference, namely the full withdrawal from Arab lands and the restoration of the Palestinian legitimate rights including the establishment of the independent Palestinian State with Jerusalem as its capital, "he said.

If Israel does so, Arab countries will give Israel complete peace, he added.

Concerning reports that Israel accepts the part of the Saudi initiative on the establishment of normal relations with Arab States but refuses the part calling on it to withdraw to the pre-June 5, 1969 borders, the Foreign Minister said regrettably, Israel always comes up lame.

It takes two feet to move forward: one is full peace from all Arab states, and the other is Israel's full withdrawal, he added.

Asked whether the Saudi initiative would still be raised at the Beirut Summit even if Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat could not attend, he said the initiative was in the interest of the Palestinians.

It is in their interest because it treats the issue of Palestinian bloodshed and the issue of the siege on the Palestinian leadership, he added.

Foreign Minister Maher, on his part, said Israel has two choices: either to continue to blunder and hold on to a policy that has not brought it any peace, security or suppressed the fervent Palestinian resistance - or to accept peace, towards which current Arab efforts are geared, foremost the Saudi Crown Prince's efforts.

"It is now up to decide and chose the road that will lead the region to peace, security and progress, or to proceed on the road that it knows will lead to regret," he said.

Israel has failed to intimidate the Palestinians or the Arab support to them, he added.

He said Israel has now the option either to take the way that can establish peace, security and stability or to take the way that can only lead to more violence, bloodshed, chaos and disturbances.
