Damascus hosts a seminar on e-class concept learning
Syria, Education, 3/11/2002

In an effort to create widespread awareness about its e-class (electronic class) concept, a revolutionary educational system, the Syrian ministry of education in collaboration with DTK Computer recently held a seminar in Damascus under the title "E-classes: The ideal solution for education through computers."

The seminar was held at Le Meridian Damascus. It was attended by many Syrian officials concerned including Mahmoud Al Sayed, Minister of Education, Syria, deputy ministers of the Ministry of Higher Education, and other ministries, Deans and Heads of Department of leading Syrian universities, schools, colleges and other educational institutes and leading business executives.

In a statement, the minister of education Dr. Mahmoud al- Sayed said: "We believe that this technology (e-class ) will go a long way in limiting the problems faced in the teaching process because of its ability to secure continuous control and perform student appraisals which contributes in enhancing teaching and learning effectiveness. " He added:" We believe that the e-class concept, targeted at the education sector is a significant contribution from DTK to the advancement of the region's IT education and e-learning scenario and we take great pride in this contribution," said Nimer-Al Attal, Managing Director, DTK Computer Middle East. "Our focus lies in utilizing technology to provide better and advanced educational systems. We aim to reduce the theoretical level in the current education system in an effort induce a higher level of practicality," he added.

The e-class is a comprehensive hardware and software solution, based on cutting-edge technology, and provides optimized performance thus making it easy to install and maintain at a reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). DTK e-class is based on DTK Platforms and Remote Boot Technology, building electronic solutions on trusted high-quality solutions. Schools can expand and enhance the e-class configurations in order to handle software that possesses a higher degree of sophistication. Users can easily add additional electronic classrooms, connect to other school networks or add Internet connections. The unique remote-boot solution allows a diskless student computing station to boot up the operation system from a server. This is a cost-effective, robust and easy to manage network solution.

The e-class solution is powered by an advanced teaching, learning and assessment application developed by DTK, generically called MILS (Multimedia Interactive Learning Software). The instructor can access every monitor, mouse, keyboard and multimedia resource available to the class. This access allows the instructor to easily view any single student screen or group automatically, scan all students' screens and decipher problems and project multimedia programs and/or files, including VCD, Internet and multimedia lessons to students.
