Moroccan Designer's Fulgura exhibited in Geneva Motor Show
Morocco, Business, 3/9/2002
"Fulgura," a car entirely designed by Moroccan Abdesslam Laraki, is exhibited at the 72nd Geneva Motor Show this March 7-17.
The car, which attracted the attention of specialized journalists and car industrialists and constructors in the fair, is Moroccan made, except for its Lamborghini engine and chassis.
"They thought it was Italian, since Italian designers are known for the beauty of their creations, but were all surprised when they learnt it was Moroccan" the young Moroccan designer told MAP.
After his baccalaureate, Abdesslam came to Switzerland for design studies. He graduated from the "Art Center" in Vevey, and went to Paris to pursue his studies.
When he went back to Morocco in 1997, he set up a yacht and luxury boat design business, "Laraki Design," in Casablanca, where his car, Fulgura (lightening in Roman), came into being.
Laraki says he will exhibit an improved version of Fulgura in the 2003 edition of the fair, with a chassis entirely conceived in Morocco according to the state of the art technology. Chassis and coachwork will be made up of carbon fibers, he disclosed. Laraki is preparing for the Geneva 2003 another car prototype, less sophisticated than Fulgura, but still a luxury car. He declined to disclose any further details. "It will be a surprise for Geneva 2003" he says with a smile.
