Kuwait and the Saudi initiative
Kuwait-Regional, Politics, 3/9/2002
Kuwait's minister of state for foreign affairs Muhammad al-Sabah has called for adopting the initiative of the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz at the Beirut's summit due to be held by the end of this month.
In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Watan issued on Friday before he headed for Cairo to preside over the 117th session of the council of the Arab League that the said initiative will be the focal point for the discussion at the Arab summit and "we hope it will be adopted unanimously."
The indicated that the initiative calls for confirming the terms of reference for the UN in solving the Arab- Israeli conflict, especially UN resolutions 242 and 338 on which the Madrid conference was built.
A well-informed diplomatic source in Cairo said to the paper that the meeting does not intend to prepare for the summit as the summit will be preceded by another meeting for the Arab foreign ministers in order to prepare for the summit.
