Arab-American body plans anti-palestinian land occupation demonstration on march 30
Regional-USA, Politics, 3/8/2002
The Arab-American anti Discrimination Committee, an association of Arab-Americans, announced plans to hold on March 30, the Palestinian "Land Day," two major demonstrations in Washington, DC and Los Angeles, CA.
The ADC says march 30 should be a nationwide day of solidarity with the Palestinian people and of protest against the escalating disastrous violence between Palestinians and Israelis for both peoples.
Arab Americans will be joined by supporters of peace and human rights from every ethnic, political and religious background.
The central message of the day is "End the Occupation, End the Violence." Demonstrations will also be upholding other principles such as the Land-for-peace principle, Two peoples, two states, a shared Jerusalem, the right of the refugees to return.
ADC argues that the U.S. is not a neutral party in this conflict as Israel uses billions in annual U.S. financial aid to maintain the occupation, build settlements, demolish homes and dispossess and oppress the Palestinians. It uses U.S. F-16s and Apache helicopters to attack Palestinian civilians and conduct assassinations.
ADC also says in a press release e-mailed to MAP "the U.S. policy of diplomatic neglect has allowed the cycle of violence to continually escalate. This has resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians including many children, and almost 300 Israelis, many of them also civilians and children.
The Palestinian "Land Day" marks the first time that Palestinians within Israel held in 1976 massive demonstrations and protests to defend their land against confiscation. Since then it has become an international day of support for Palestinian rights.
