King Mohammed calls for making Cen-Sad an appropriate Environment
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 3/8/2002

Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Wednesday called for making the Community of Sahel and Sahara States (Cen-Sad) an appropriate environment and to seek practical means to secure to this space the expected development.

This came in a speech read on behalf of the king by Prime Minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, at the opening of the fourth Cen-sad Union summit, held in the Libyan coastal city of Syrte.

King Mohammed VI voiced pride that despite its recent creation, Cen-Sad managed to be the largest regional grouping in Africa.

"The Community of Sahel and Sahara States succeeded, in four years of its existence, to consolidate its institutions, furnishing thus proof as to its ability to transcend barriers and entertain the radiance of the spirit of cooperation and solidarity among its members," said King Mohammed VI.

Cen-Sad is today the largest regional market in Africa with more than 320 million consumers.
