Syria-Jordan, Economics, 3/8/2002
The Syrian minister of irrigation Muhammad al-Mardini said on Thursday that his country is committed to the agreement to build al-Wahda dam and developing al-Yarmouk basin according to specifications agreed upon with Jordan.
Upon his arrival in Amman on Thursday al-Mardini said that the formed technical committees for this purpose have worked regularly for drawing studies and designs required for the implementation of the project.
He described cooperation in the field of water between Syrian and Jordan as remarkable and clearly manifesting the desire of the leaderships in the two states and their care to implement all bilateral agreements signed in regard to this vital sector.
The Syrian minister added replying a question on whether there are problems or obstacles impeding the implementation of the agreement of 1987 between the two states regarding the investment of al-Yarmouk river, the Syrian minister said that any talks on such impediments are totally groundless, noting:" we fully understands Jordan's needs for this project, the same for us."
