Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 3/8/2002
The Turkish daily Daily News said in its Thursday's issue that Syria and Iran share concern and fears with Turkey regarding the foundation of a Kurdish state in northern Iraq area. A matter which will provoke Kurds in these countries.
The paper quoted a high ranking Kurdish official as saying while commenting on the current visit made by the chairman of the Kurdistani national federation Jalal al-Talibani to Turkey that al-Talibani was welcomed as a leader for one of the legal political parties in Iraq, noting that the standing conditions in Iraq are temporary and not ordinary.
In this regard, the Turkish daily Hurriet said that al-Talibani met with officials in the Turkish intelligence and the army chief of staff department, where he received a strong warning on the need to continue fighting members of the Kurdistani workers party organization in north Iraq.
The paper indicated that Talibani vowed Turkey to continue fighting the Kurdistani workers party BKK, noting that the Turkish intelligence and army chief of staff see that Talibani supports indirectly the issue of politicizing the organization.
