Association of sahrawi tribes in France to inform U.N of its rejection of any partition of sahara
Morocco, Politics, 3/7/2002

The Association of Sahrawi Tribes in France said it will inform the United Nations of its categorical rejection of any move to partition the Sahara, a territory that is a part and parcel of Morocco.

"We are proud of our Moroccan identity. There is no way to relinquish an inch of our territory," members of the Association said in a statement to French regional newspaper L'Est Republicain.

The Association, based in France, told the daily it will write to the United Nations to express their rejection of any partition of the Sahara. The Association's President, Ahmed Zini, assimilated the partition to the Berlin Wall that once divided Germany and the world into eastern and western blocs.

"Sahrawis can share tea, but they cannot share the Moroccan Sahara with anybody," said the Association, which groups more than 1000 Moroccan Sahrawis.

Meanwhile, the Moroccan National Organization of Democrat Women, close to the National Democrat Party, sent U.N. Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, a letter voicing the organization's rejection of the partition proposal. The proposal made by Algeria unveils this country's expansionist and geo-strategic intentions, the organization said.
