Some 20471 Bahraini unemployed

Number of unemployed Bahraini citizens reached a 17402 ( representing 13% of the labor force) by the end of 2001, despite the efforts made by the government to solve this persistent matter.
Figures issued by the ministry of labor and social affairs revealed that number of women who seek jobs, according to the records of the ministry of labor reached 11121 representing an increase of 300% over the figures of the year 2000, or 64% of the total number of unemployed.
At the meantime, some 181,000 foreigners are working in Bahrain most of them are from the Indian subcontinent and from the Philippines.
Bahrain's population tolled 651,000, one third of them are foreigners. Foreigners represent 59% of the total labor force in Bahrain. According to figures of the end of 2001 by the ministry of labor total labor force number in Bahrain reached 308,400.
