US, Turkish sources and Iraq
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 3/7/2002
The BBC correspondent in Ankara said in a report on Wednesday quoting American and Turkish diplomatic sources as saying that American military and intelligence groups entered the north of Iraq through the Turkish borders in order to be acquainted with the security conditions there and also to talks with the Kurdish groups on the means and the possibility of increasing joint coordination and cooperation during any possible American military act against Baghdad.
The said sources unveiled that 15,000 American troops will enter the Iraqi territories from south east Turkey by the mid of May in case both the American and Turkish sides agree on the details of the American project with all its military, political, and economic elements.
However, several Turkish political sources speek about the drastic need Ankara has to Washington's support especially at the political and economic levels. A matter which forces Turkey to maintain solidarity with the US within the framework of its special policy toward the Arab and European capitals.
