$ 7 billion, losses of the Palestinian economy
Palestine, Economics, 3/6/2002

The Palestinian delegation taking part in the meetings of the Arab labor conference currently held in Cairo reviewed the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the delegation announced that "unemployment rate reached 70% of the volume of the labor force because of the brutal Israeli practices and that two million Palestinians have become under the line poverty and losses of the Palestinian economy just for 2001 reached USD 7 billion."

The delegation said that 36 % of the Palestinian " water springs " had dried because of Israel's stealing of huge amounts of the waters of the West Bank Eastern basin and the Israeli settler has become a consumer of six folds of the consumption of the Palestinian citizen.

The Palestinian delegation added that Israel destroyed more than 80% of the Palestinian production establishments, in remarks that what the Palestinians have been exposed to of material and human losses deserved to be helped and to permit the Palestinian workers to work in the Arab labor market.

A Palestinian report submitted to the conference said that the general public debt reached USD 782 million since the eruption of the Intifada. The report also noted the industrial and agricultural status and the budget's discrepancy.
