Al-Assad stresses crown prince Abdullah's identical views with national stances
Saudi Arabia-Syria, Politics, 3/6/2002

President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday held a short and successful visit to Saudi Arabia during which he met with King Fahd Abdul Aziz and discussed with the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz developments on the Arab and international arenas especially "the acts of killing, repression and destruction conducted against the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation forces. View points were identical regarding debated issues."

Al-Assad arrived in Jeddah on Tuesday afternoon in a visit to Saudi Arabia. He was welcomed at King Abdul Aziz's international airport by the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz. He was also welcomed by the Saudi princes Nawaf Bin Abdul Aziz, prince Abdul Majid Bin Abdul Aziz the ruler of Mecca, prince Saudi al-Faisal the Saudi foreign minister, prince Mamdouh Bin Abdul Aziz the chairman of the strategic center studies and the Saudi cabinet ministers, high ranking military and civilian officials in the Kingdom and the Syrian general consul in Jeddah.

The President was accompanied by vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam and the deputy premier and foreign minister farouk al-Shara.

At al-Salaam palace President al-Assad met with the Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz and was assured on the King's good health.

Then al-Assad and Fahd held a meeting, attended by members of the Syrian and Saudi delegations and then the President and the crown prince headed to the crown prince's palace in Jeddah, where they held a meeting attended by both Khaddam and al-Shara on the Syrian side. The Saudi side was attended by prince Nawaf Bin Abdul Aziz, the foreign minister Saud al-Faisal and officials concerned.

Discussions dealt with developments on the Arab and international arenas especially the aggressive acts practiced against the Palestinians by the Israeli occupation forces.

President al-Assad and the crown prince stressed Syria's and Saudi Arabia's firm stand in support of the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle to restore back the usurped rights and occupied lands. The two sides reviewed contacts held by both the President and the crown prince with other states.

View points were identical regarding all debated issues and thoughts. Stress was laid on that just and comprehensive peace in the region as a strategic option can be only achieved through Israel's withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories including the Syrian Golan heights until June 4, 1967 border line and so far Lebanese territories that are still under the Israeli occupation in south Lebanon and the establishment of the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as a capital and clinging to the right of return according to UN resolutions concerned.

The two sides stressed the national stances the Arab states are attached to achieve just and comprehensive peace, based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Madrid terms of reference as well as the land for peace formula.

Al-Assad stressed that these unwavering stances are in compliance with ideas debated by the Saudi crown prince. He expressed his satisfaction with the stand taken by Saudi Arabia and her continued support to the just Arab causes.
