On the Saudi initiative
Palestine-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 3/5/2002
The Palestinian official in charge of planning and international cooperation in the Palestinian Authority Nabil Shaath has ruled out the existence of any Arab opposition to the initiative of the Saudi crown prince to establishing peace in the Middle East with the exception of what stated by the Libyan President Muaammar al-Qaddafi on March 2nd.
In a statement to the to the Saudi daily al-Watan issued on Monday, Shaath said that he does not see that Syria will oppose the initiative and that it complies with the Syrian demands of Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Arab territories and the return back to the border of June 4, 1967.
Shaath explained that the main points of this initiative is Israel's complete withdrawal from the occupied Arab territories occupied after June 1967, but it will not solve all inflicted problems as a result of the Israeli aggression, especially the question of the refugees.
Shaath statement came after his meeting on Sunday in Jeddah with the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.
