Arab League chief heads for Libya
Libya-Regional, Politics, 3/2/2002

In a later development, the spokesman for the Arab League (AL) Hisham Youssef said on late Saturday evening that the AL secretary general will pay an urgent visit to Libya to meet with the Libyan President Mu'ammar al-Qaddafi and to discuss with him his plan to establish peace in the Middle East.

In a statement, Youssef said that Amr Moussa will hold a several- hour visit to Sert, situated on the Eastern Libyan coast in order to hold talks with al- Qaddafi on Arab developments and the debated initiatives concerning the realization of peace in the Middle East.

Observers expressed their conviction that Moussa wanted to make the visit quickly so as to avoid the negative consequences of al-Qaddafi proposals in the works of the Arab summit due to be held in Beirut by the end of this March.
