Egypt protests against German Minister criticism to Islam
Egypt-Germany, Politics, 3/2/2002

Egypt officially protested yesterday on the press statements of German Minister of Interior Otto Schily against Islam. The Egyptian Ambassador to Germany, Mohamed Al Orabi placed the protest to the German Foreign Ministry, according to directives from Cairo.

The Arab ambassadors in Berlin delegated the Yemeni ambassador, as the dean of Arab ambassadors to Germany, to meet with the German Minister of Interior to deliver the Arab protest and worries regarding his continuous statements against Islam since September 11 attacks.

The Islamic countries ambassadors to Germany are also to meet soon to discuss means to respond to the German Minister's statements.

"The German Minister of Interior has repeatedly criticized Islamic belief as heresy. Muslims have to accept criticism to Islam after the attacks on USA," added Schily.
