Morocco, Senegal sign six cooperation agreements
Morocco-Senegal, Economics, 3/2/2002

Morocco and Senegal signed in Dakar Friday six cooperation agreements in equipment, communication, radio and TV, avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion, roads and highways construction and creation of a business council.

The agreements were signed at the end of the 12th session of the Moroccan-Senegalese joint commission, co-chaired by the two countries' foreign ministers, Mohammed Benaissa and Cheikh Tidiane Gadio.

The agreement in equipment provides for consolidating technical cooperation for a rational management of infrastructure, construction and maintenance of roads and highways. The two countries will also be joining efforts in ports construction and in meteorology.

In communication, Morocco and Senegal will cooperate in radio and TV broadcasting, in written media and cinema by holding study missions and training sessions for professionals. Other aspects includes co-production of radio and TV programs, movies and exchange of newspapers.

The accord on avoidance of double taxation and tax evasion seeks to encourage investments between the two African countries while the agreement on roads and highways features specific projects, mainly the Senegal river road to link Tangiers (northern Morocco) to Lagos (Nigeria) and a 70-km long pay highway. Other actions include the management and maintenance of non-coated roads and the training of Senegalese road technicians in Morocco.
