King Mohammed visits southern provinces next week
Morocco, Politics, 3/2/2002

Morocco's King Mohammed VI will pay next week a visit to the southern provinces, it was officially announced.

A statement of the Moroccan ministry of royal household, protocol and chancellery said the sovereign will go to Dakhla on March 5 and to Laayoune on March 6 where he will deliver a speech announcing the creation of the agency for economic and social development promotion in the Moroccan southern prefectures and provinces.

In Laayoune, minister of the interior, Driss Jettou, held on Friday a session with local authorities and elected officials to prepare for the visit.

Participants underscored the importance of the royal visit to Laayoune and insisted as all masks have been dropped, it necessary to mobilize behind the throne to foil all maneuvers and produce to friends and enemies alike evidence that the Sahara is Moroccan.

The local authorities and elected officials voiced pride to receive the king for the second time.
