King Mohammed holds with Bush phone talks over sahara
Morocco-USA, Politics, 3/1/2002
Morocco's King Mohammed VI held this Thursday with US president George W. Bush phone talks over a set of international issues, mainly the issue of Morocco's territorial integrity.
The sovereign informed the US chief executive on latest developments in the issue of Morocco's territorial integrity insisting on Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces and on the unity of the Moroccan people.
The sovereign also renewed Morocco's constant readiness to find a peaceful solution (to the Sahara issue) as part of the draft framework-agreement proposed by the UN secretary general's personal envoy, James Baker, as the only option likely to promote an honorable, peaceful and final settlement to this artificial conflict.
The two heads of state also expressed support to the initiative of Saudi heir apparent, prince Abdullah Ibn Abdulaziz. Morocco has called for backing to the initiative that consists in Israel's withdrawal from all occupied Arab territories, including Al-Quds Asharif, in accordance with the United Nations relevant resolutions, in exchange for total normalization between Arab states and Israel.
The sovereign also informed the US president on the holding, under the auspices of Morocco, of a reconciliation summit of three Mano river-bordering countries, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, and the positive results accomplished by the summit.
