The first phase of the of fighting and destroying banned plants at the Bekaa plain started on Tuesday with the participation of member of the Lebanese internal security forces backed by a force from the Lebanese army and another force from the Syrian army. No security incidents were reported. This operation is expected to last for one week and will cover the destruction of almost 1.5 million square meters of areas planted with Opium.
