UN Human Rights Commissioner Robinson to address Cairo University scholars

UN Human Rights Commissioner Mary Robinson on Thursday evening will address Cairo University scholars.
Robinson will give a lecture titled "Human Rights and the Arab Nation," said Mustafa Kamel El-Sayed, the director of the institute of developing countries.
Sayed said Robinson has accepted an invitation to give the lecture. Sayed noted that he would also give a brief word on human rights in the world.
Mary Robinson arrived in Cairo Wednesday night for talks with Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher and several official on human rights-related issues and their violations in the occupied territories.
Asked by on the UN Human Rights Commission's stand over human rights violations in Palestine, Robinson said she, had voiced concern over the situation in the Occupied terrorities.
She cited statements made by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who demanded an end to the siege imposed on Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
Robinson described as more than dangerous the situation in the occupied territories.
She added that the Geneva-based human rights committee would discuss the issue on March 18.
She added that she would discuss the grave situation in the occupied Palestinian territories with Egyptian officials and representatives of the non-government organizations during her two-day visit.
