Mubarak-Bush summit draws optimism in Washington

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is due in Washington on Saturday on a five-day visit to the US during which he is to meet with President Bush along with other senior officials.

US sources said that the US administration has prepared all the files to be discussed during Mubarak's visit specially those on regional and international issues of common interest.

President Mubarak has recently contacted a number of leaders concerned with the Middle East issue and its repercussions along with US and international envoys that visited Egypt recently.

Political sources in the US are unanimous that Mubarak-Bush talks will come out with positive results that would lead to practical steps for putting an end to the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian territories.

Also, the Egyptian -American talks will tackle means of boosting bilateral relations. A US official said the volume of trade exchange between the two countries is valued at 4 billion dollars adding the US is the second biggest investor in Egypt.

Fighting terrorism will also figure high on the agenda of talks between the Egyptian and American leaders.

President Mubarak will expound the importance that fighting terrorism should be confined only to terrorists barring nations that are struggling for liberating their occupied lands.

President Mubarak will stress during the talks the Arab countries' rejection of dealing any strike against Iraq or any other country in the region as part of the so-called international drive against terrorism, the sources maintained.
