Kuwait welcomes Saudi peace initiative for the middle east

The initiative of Saudi crown prince Abdullah came in the right time and Kuwaiti fully supports it, said Kuwaiti minister of state for foreign affairs Sheikh Mohammed Al-Sabah quoted by the country's news agency KUNA.

The Saudi initiative is based on the Madrid land-for-peace formula and the implementation of international resolutions, Sheikh Mohammed told reporters as he was leaving for the Spanish city of Granada which is hosting this February 27-28 the 12th ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union.

Sheikh Mohammed added he believes that the Saudi initiative will be mentioned "some way or another" in the final communique of the GCC-EU meeting.

He also expected next March's Arab summit in Beirut to come up with a collective Arab support to the Saudi crown prince peace initiative in the middle East. The Saudi plan placed Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon "in a tight spot.. And he has to choose whether he is with peace or with destruction," said the Kuwaiti official.
