Morocco denies Spanish information on readiness to discuss Sahara partitioning
Morocco, Politics, 2/26/2002
The Moroccan ministry of foreign affairs and cooperation denied on Tuesday Spanish press reports that Morocco is ready to discuss, under some conditions, the partition of its Sahara provinces.
Two Spanish dailies "El Periodico" and "La Razon" had reported, quoting unidentified sources in New York, that Morocco is ready to discuss under some conditions the Algerian proposal to partition its southern provinces.
The ministry which says the press reports are groundless deplores that they are circulated at a time Morocco in all its components is unequivocally and strongly expressing its total refusal of any partition idea or any discussion on the matter.
The release also regrets that once again Spanish media are the source of ill-intended misinformation and the relay of allegations on clear positions.
Morocco is legitimately wondering on the reasons behind the publication of these reports that are both irresponsible and contrary to journalism ethics and professional norms, the statement concludes.
