Morocco-Bahrain, Politics, 2/26/2002
Prince Moulay Rahid, brother of King Mohammed VI, was received on Tuesday in Manama by King Hamad Ben Eissa Al Khalifa of Bahrain who proclaimed constitutional monarchy in his country.
The prince conveyed to the head of the Bahraini state the congratulations of King Mohammed VI on the proclamation of monarchy and the completion of constitutional institutions.
King Hamad expressed thanks and consideration to the Moroccan sovereign for his brotherly feelings that reflect, he said, the depth and solidity of ties between the two kingdoms and peoples. He also renewed his country's will to consolidate bilateral cooperation and hailed the remarkable level reached in relations between the two Arab countries thanks to bilateral cooperation and coordination.
Prince Moulay Rachid and his entourage were later host to a luncheon offered in their honor by the Bahraini monarch.
Prince Moulay Rachid was received previously by the prime minister of Bahrain Sheikh Khalifa Ben Salmane Al Khalifa.
Bahrain marked on Monday the first anniversary of a referendum on a national charter providing for changing the Bahrain state status into a constitutional monarchy.
After a 98% vote for the charter, the head of the state of Bahrain proclaimed the constitutional monarchy, took the title of king and announced the holding of local and legislative elections next May.
Reforms also include restoring the parliament, powers separation, gender equality, granting the eligibility right to women and the creation of a constitutional court.
