Morocco flatly denies meeting between King Mohammed and former Spanish premier
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 2/26/2002
The Moroccan ministry of foreign affairs and cooperation flatly denied this Tuesday news of a secret meeting between King Mohammed VI and former Spanish premier, Felipe Gonzalez.
The ministry denied in a release information published and widely commented by Spanish daily "El Mundo" that Felipe Gonzalez was received in secret last Sunday by King Mohammed VI.
The statement states that King Mohammed VI had no contact of whatever kind with Felipe Gonzalez over the week end. Nothing would have justified to keep such a meeting secret as the former Spanish premier is a great friend of Morocco and would have been normally received publicly and with all the respect due to him, the statement goes on describing the information as groundless and illustrating the worrying absence of objectivity when it comes to Spanish information on Morocco.
It is particularly surprising and regrettable that some press organs in Spain show such a degree of non-professionalism whenever it comes to Morocco and to Moroccan-Spanish relations, the statement deplores.
