Presidents of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, in Morocco for summit talks on Peace in Mano River region
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 2/26/2002

Presidents of Guinea, Lansana Conte, of Liberia, Charles Taylor, and of Sierra Leone, Ahmed Tejan Kabbah, arrived in Rabat this Tuesday for summit talks on peace in the Mano river region.

The three African heads of state were welcomed at the airport by King Mohammed VI.

According to press reports, the summit talks to start Wednesday will be preceded by a meeting of the foreign ministers.

The meeting is meant to establish a lasting peace in the region. Liberia and Guinea are charging each other of backing troops that launch attacks against their respective territories, while Sierra Leone charges Liberia of being the major backer of the Sierra Leonian rebel Revolutionary United Front (RUF).
