Jordanian- Iranian committee meets today

The Jordanian - Iranian joint committee will meet today in Tehran in order to discuss bilateral relations in various areas and to expand prospects of cooperation and attracting investments and implementing certain joint projects between the two countries.
During its deliberations which will last for three days, the committee will discuss economic cooperation, increasing the Jordanian products to Iran especially Phosphate, as Iran has expressed its readiness to increase the amounts of phosphates imported from Jordan to three folds, as well as increasing cooperation in the area of religious tourism, organizing tourism trips for the Iranians to visit Jordan in order to be acquainted with its religious and civilization monuments.
The talks will also deal with the possibility of Iran's participation in implementing al-Deisi water project which is considered one of the key projects on which Jordan pins great hope to solve its water crisis.
In this regard, Iran had proposed financing this project and full implementation of it. The project which costs USD 600 million aims at producing 80 million cubic meters of drinking waters from al-Deisi area.
The committee also discussed increasing number of air flights between Amman and Tehran and increasing cooperation in the field of al-Awqaf ( Islamic Trust) and Islamic affairs and higher education.
Worthy mentioning that the Jordanian King Abdullah II received an invitation from the Iranian President Muhammad Khatami to visit Iran and he promised to fulfill this visit in due time. In recent months several Iranian ministers visited Jordan.
