Regional, Religion, 2/25/2002

The Middle East Churches Council has stressed that the Arab civilization and the Islamic religion are among the most important among civilizations and religions with which the Christians of the East have interacted and continue to merge.

In a seminar held on Sunday in Cairo, on the occasion of releasing a book under the title "Christianity throughout its history in the East," the council reviewed the "history of the Eastern churches and the stages, incidents and movements Christians in the East have passed through during 2000 years.

The secretary general of the council of the Middle East churches in Cairo Jurjes Saleh explained that the book "Christianity in the East" is published at a time when talks have increased about the conflict between civilizations. He stressed that Christians lived amid civilizations but never challenged any of them at any time.
