Bush to al-Assad: we are committed to peace, based on UN resolutions and Madrid conference
Syria-USA, Politics, 2/23/2002

In his cable of congratulations he sent to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Eid al-Adha, the US President George Bush said that the US is still committed to the realization of a just and comprehensive peace based on UN Security Council resolutions 242 and 338.

Bush hoped that Eid al-Adha will be a landmark on the commitment of the two countries to work together to attain these objectives.

The US President expressed thanks to President al-Assad over meeting with the US congress delegation who visited Damascus and who informed Bush about its meetings with President Bashar al-Assad.

President Bush also expressed his conviction that the common interests between Syria and the US can be served in a better way through following up on fighting terrorism.
