Palestine-Canada, Politics, 2/23/2002

The Canadian foreign minister Bell Graham on Thursday announced that Canada intends to make use of its current presidency of the G- 8 so as to call on the leaders of its member states to play an active role in the Middle East.

News reports said that Graham expressed his conviction at the Canadian parliament that the opportunities of success available for a vast international groups exceed the opportunities of the current process which is basically built on the pressures practiced by the US.

Graham said "we this year assume the presidency of the G-8 and I promise we will, I and the prime minister Jan Cretian, do all our best to convince our colleagues in the G Ð8 to take part in the peace process in the Middle East."

It is decided that heads of governments of the G-8 -- the US, Japan, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Russia will be meeting in Canada by the end of next June.
