Sit-in of Solidarity with Palestinian People in Rabat
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 2/21/2002

Representatives of several Moroccan non-governmental organizations staged Wednesday in Rabat a sit-in of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Lawyers, newsmen, professors, artists and human rights activists rallied in front of the embassy of Palestine in Rabat to denounce the Israeli policy and escalation in the Palestinian territories and renew unconditional backing to the Palestinian Authority, to its leader Yasser Arafat and to the Palestinian people.

The sit-in is a message to the US and European leaders telling them that the Moroccan people, like other Arab peoples, cannot tolerate the massacres and aggressions against the Palestinian people, Secretary General of the Moroccan association of support to the Palestinian struggle, Khalid Soufiani, told MAP.

He added that the sit-in is also meant to tell the Palestinians that the Moroccan people is standing at their side till the victory.

The Ambassador of Palestine who was present at the sit-in denounced Israel's blatant violations of human rights in Palestine saying the assailants destroy houses, assassinate militants and kill civilians, incliuding children.

The sit-in was initiated by the association of Moroccans bars, the Moroccan League for the Defense of Human Rights, the Moroccan Association and the Moroccan Organization of Human Rights and Amnesty International, Morocco section.
