Morocco Welcomes Saudi Crown Prince's Initiative on Middle East
Morocco-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 2/21/2002

Morocco on Thursday welcomed recent statements by Saudi Arabia's crown prince Abdallah Ibn Abdelaziz, on the Middle East conflict.

Crown Prince Abdallah's initiative shows that Arabs are willing to establish fair and comprehensive peace and end the conflict in the Middle East, Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa told the London-based Asharaq Al Awsat daily.

The Saudi Crown Prince had told the New York Times he had prepared a speech in which he was going to call for "Arabs states' full relations with Israel in exchange for its full withdrawal from the Arab territories it is occupying since 1967, including Al Quds."

Benaissa, who is on a work visit to Britain, said Saudi Arabia has always adopted pioneer attitudes and initiatives, owing to its first-rank role and resolve to preserve Arab-Islamic interests.

Benaissa recalled the adoption at the Arab Summit, held in 1982 in Fez (Morocco), of an Arab peace plan, engineered by King Fahd Ibn Abdelaziz in coordination with the late king Hassan II.

The head of the Moroccan diplomacy wished that all parties will positively react to the Saudi initiative to get the region out of the present deadlock.
