Three cooperation agreements signed between Syria, Italy

In the second day of Syria's President al-Assad's visit to Italy, President Bashar al-Assad met with the Italian prime minister and discussed with him prospects of technical and economic cooperation and three cooperation agreements were signed between the two countries covering the areas of investment, the environment and tourism cooperation.
At the headquarters of Rome municipality, al-Assad made a speech in which he talked in details about the deeply rooted historical relations between Syria and Italy and the civilization interaction between the two countries, especially in architecture. The renowned Syrian architect Apolorado, the Damascene had designed and implemented several buildings, bridges and monuments in Italy including Trajan column. Besides, many Syrians ascended into the throne in Rome during the times of the Roman Empire.
Al-Assad added that from Damascus, the cradle of civilization, prophet Paul started his mission taking the route of Antioch to Rome.
Al-Assad said, we recall the incidents of the past in order to concentrate our interest on the present and the future so as to complete the efforts of the ancestors by expanding relations between the two countries.
Al-Assad on Wednesday held a meeting with the Italian prime minister. It was attended on the Syrian side by the deputy premier and foreign minister Farouk al-Shara, the minister of the economy and foreign trade Ghassan al-Refaa the tourism minister Saadallah Agha al-Qalaa and the Syrian charge de affairs in Rome.
On the Italian side, the meeting was attended by the deputy Italian foreign minister and several Aides for the Italian prime minister and the Italian ambassador in Damascus.
Discussions dealt with issues pertinent to prospects of economic, technical and technological cooperation between the two countries. It was agreed to coordinate frames of such a cooperation to serve the interests of the two countries and contribute to developing sectors of cooperation between the two countries especially in the areas of banking and tourism.
It was also agreed to find out the mechanism for developing this cooperation through exchanging delegations. The three signed agreements are an agreement to encourage investment; an agreement to protect the environment and an agreement on tourism cooperation.
