Algerian intellectual defends the Arabic language
Algeria, Politics, 2/20/2002

The chairman of the Algerian society in defense of the Arab language Othman Saadi has expressed his hope that the general secretariat of the Arab League will not ratify the agreement signed recently by the Arab League Education, Cultural and Scientific Organization ALECSO and the Franchophonic organization.

In a message he addressed to the secretary general of the Arab League Amr Moussa and issued on Tuesday by the Algerian "al-Shorouq al-Yamoumi," and "Sawt al-Ahrar" dailies, Saadi said:" we find in the agreement a treason to the Arab nation because this agreement legitimize the aggressive act of the Franchophonic in the Arab Maghreb."

He indicated that the Franchophonic organization is an effective element in the hands of the new French colonialism and has been working since more than half a century to impose the hegemony of the French language on former colonialist states.
