Companies with foreign shares contributed 40% to industrial GDP in 2000

Processing companies with foreign shares, with 53 Billion DH (US$ 3.01 Bln) contributed in 2000 40% of Morocco's industrial GDP and, with 22 billion DH (US$ 1.8 Bln) 35% of industrial production.
According to a survey of the ministry of industry, trade, energy and mining, these enterprises with foreign shares also conducted 41% of industrial exports and employ 166,000 persons, accounting for 34% of manpower.
A rate of 35% of these companies operating in the textile and leather industry export 35% of their total production and employ 40% of all the sector's staff but only contribute 15% to production and 16% to the added value.
Meanwhile, the chemical and para-chemical sector accounts for 38% of production, 52% of investments and 40% of the foreign enterprises' total GDP.
The study also found that investors from three European countries are taking 60% of the foreign capital invested in Morocco: France (35%), Switzerland (14%) and Spain (11%).
