Moussa, Turayki discuss means to restore Arab solidarity
Libya-Regional, Politics, 2/18/2002

Secretary-General of the Libyan People's Committee for African Unity Abdul Salam Al Turayki hailed efforts exerted by Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa to deal with the Iraqi-Kuwaiti state of affairs.

During a meeting with Moussa on Sunday, the Libyan official said that Moussa's visits to Iraq and Kuwait, and the consultations he made with officials in the two states, were praiseworthy.

Moussa discussed with Turayki a number of Arab issues including the coming Arab summit.

The Arab leaders' meeting during the Arab summit, due to be held in Beirut next month, is important, said the Libyan official, adding it was also important to deal with the status quo in light of the Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people.

The Libyan official also discussed with Moussa conditions in Sudan and efforts exerted within the framework of the Egyptian-Libyan initiative to deal with the situation.

They probed conditions in Somalia and Comoros, as well as funds established to support development in the two countries.

On the trial of the Libyan citizen Abdel Basset A1 Megrahi, accused of blowing up a Pan-Am plane over Lockerbie in 1988, Turayki said that Libya enjoyed the full support of the Arab and African sides in dealing with the trial, adding that contacts were continuing in this respect.
