Mubarak gets a message from al-Qaddafi
Egypt-Libya, Politics, 2/18/2002

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt on Sunday received a message from the Libyan President Muammar al-Qaddafi.

The message was handed over by the secretary general of the people's general committee in Libya for African unity ( the foreign minister) upon meeting with Mubarak on Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh city.

In statements following the meeting, al-Tureiki stressed that the message relates to the current Arab condition and latest developments of the situation in the ME, the issue of Sudan, as well as Libyan- Egyptian bilateral relations and means of developing them.

Al-Tureiki said that he had discussed with President Mubarak several issues of concern to the Arab nation, foremost being the Palestinian question and the Arab summit. He added that Libya will take part in the forthcoming Arab summit to be held in Beirut.

He indicated he had during the meeting conveyed written invitation from al-Qaddafi to Mubarak to attend the desert and coast states gathering summit due to be held in Tripoli, Libya on March 6th.

The Libyan official underlined the importance of fighting terrorism with the framework of an international context, noting that fighting terrorism is not the task of just one state, rather the mission of the international community as a whole.

He added that Libya backs the call made by President Hosni Mubarak to convene an international conference to fighting terrorism under the auspices of the UN.
