Russian special envoy meets with Palestinian, Israeli officials

The Russian special envoy to the Middle East Andre Vidovin said that the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat does not oppose the points over which understanding was reached during the contacts recently held between the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres and the chairman of the Palestinian legislative council Ahmad Qrei.

The Israeli radio quoted Vidovin who arrived in Israel on Friday as saying he asked Arafat a direct question to this effect and Arafat's answer was that he does not oppose these points of understanding.

On the other hand, the Israeli radio quoted Qrei as saying that he had reached points of understanding with Peres concerning the Palestinian state and the cease- fire.
