Damascus: The court listens to witnesses in the case of Seif on March 18
Syria, Politics, 2/15/2002

A date was set for the defendant witnesses in the trial of the Syrian parliament member Riyadh Seif on March 7 and it is expected that three of them will witness against accusations addressed to him. Despite that judge Jasem Muhammad accused the defendant commission of trying to delay the court on the ground that the testimony should have had happened on Thursday's session, yet the defendant claimed that this was not possible because of the inability to inform the witnesses.

The three witnesses are Dr. Ridwan Seyadah, Nazir Jazmati and Dr. Youssef Salman and all of them used to be visitors for the national dialogue forum, Seif used to hold in his house.

Seif who seemed in a good health condition stressed that his "morale" are high, upon attended the procession of the session which lasted for just several minutes.

The chairman of the defendant commission Hassan Abdul Azeem said that the defendant, has kept, despite the fact the invitation was limited to three persons, its rights to invite other witnesses including the Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam as well as the request of re-interrogating Seif.

As for other detainees held at the state's security court including lawyer Riyadh al-Turk, Abdul Azeem expected them to be freed, and he related his expectation to the " freezing of their cases as they were not submitted to the court."
