Al-Rajoub denies to have differences with Arafat
Palestine, Politics, 2/15/2002
The chairman of the Palestinian preventive security in the West Bank Col. Jibril al-Rajoub on Wednesday denied to have differences with the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat.
In statements issued by the al-Quds daily in the occupied Palestinian territories al-Rajoub said that having disputes with Arafat while the Israeli tanks are just 70 meters from his headquarters is the highest form of treason, adding that the Palestinian security establishment of which the "preventive" security is a basic element is carrying out its own duty and is governed by decisions of the chairman of the Palestinian authority.
A Palestinian official asked not to be identified stressed that Arafat expressed his strong anger against al-Rajoub during a "stormy meeting" they had in Ramullah on Tuesday.
The official added that Arafat was angry because al-Rajoub did not prevent the release of 17 Palestinian detainees on Monday evening from a prison in al-Khalil ( Hebron) in the West Bank by a crowd of Palestinians.
