Lahoud: independent and fair judiciary preserves the law and institutions
Lebanon, Judicial, 2/14/2002
President of the Lebanon, General Emile Lahoud, confirmed this week that the impartial, independent and fair justice is the one which preserves the state of law and institutions and ensures its success, the official news agency quoted the president as saying.
"President Lahoud considered that the Lebanese regime is based on the principle of separating between authorities and on maintaining their cooperation and equilibrium, the matter which gives the judicial authority a main responsibility in boosting the confidence of Lebanese citizens in their State, since their rights are protected," the report added.
President Lahoud called on the judicial corp in Lebanon to surpass all considerations based on personal and sectarian calculations, and to confront any attempt aiming at limiting judicial independence or affect its honesty.
President Lahoud's words came on the occasion of newly appointed Head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Nasri Lahoud's taking of oath, in presence of Justice Minister, Samir El-Jisr, the report said.
