Algerian, Tunisian presidents voice support to Arab issues, Maghreb unity

The Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika and the Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali have stressed their support for the right of Syria and Lebanon to restore back their occupied territories and called for the need of the Israeli pullout from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and so far left of the Lebanese territories under occupation.

In a speech he delivered on Monday evening at a dinner banquet he held in honor of the Tunisian President, currently visiting Algeria, the Algerian President condemned the policy of destruction and repression conducted by Israel against the Palestinian people and called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility into protecting the Palestinian people.

On the Maghreb federation, President Butaflika renewed the need of completing the unity of the Arab Maghreb as a strategic option, noting that the current world changes make it imperative on the Arab Maghreb states to maintain solidarity on its interests and to practice their role in the regional and international life.

In a similar speech, the Tunisian President delivered on this occasion, in which he called on the international community "the need to rapidly send an international mechanism to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people which have been exposed to aggression, destruction and besiege conducted by the Israeli occupation forces," stressing also the need of mobilizing efforts so as to establish just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

President Bin Ali stressed Tunisia's support to the Palestinian people in their legitimate struggle in order to restore back their rights, foremost being the foundation of their own independent state.

Bin Ali stressed that the Arab Maghreb federation is an option of destiny and indispensable strategy for the peoples of the Arab Maghreb. He stressed intensifying efforts with the leaders of the Arab Maghreb states in order to push forward its march into the optimum future.

On the other hand, the foreign ministers of Algeria and Tunisia signed in Algiers on Monday an agreement on arrangements of temporary control of the sea borders between Algeria and Tunisia and a cooperation protocol relating to small and medium size industries, on the sideline of the visit of the Tunisian President and members of the accompanying delegation to Algeria which will last for three days.
