Iraq takes part in the Islamic- European civilization dialogue conference
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 2/12/2002

An Iraqi official source has announced that the Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri al-Hadeithi headed for Turkey in a visit during which he will take part in the meeting to be held there between the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC and the European Union.

A source at the Iraqi foreign ministry said that al-Hadeithi will take part in the meetings of the European- Islamic civilization dialogue conference to be held on February 12 and 13 in Istanbul.

Al-Hadeithi's visit to Turkey came just few days after the messages exchanged between the Turkish prime minister Polent Acawet and the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on the return of the UN inspectors to Iraq.

On February 4, Acawet asked the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to permit the return back of the UN inspectors in order to dismantle weapons in order to avoid American strikes. He said that Iraq is facing new threats, and "we are making tremendous efforts to avert these threats." The Iraqi President replied by saying that Iraq no more owns any mass annihilation weapons, and does not have the intention to produce it and is among the first countries which is enthusiastic to have "our region" free from the mass destruction weapons.
